Topeka Alliance on Central America
~ A call for
local action to change U.S. policy
in Central America ~
The Topeka Alliance on Central America works...
to strengthen public demand for a change in current policy and advocate more just and humane policies.
to raise funds in support of Central American people as they struggle to achieve justice and a better life.
The Alliance's
Philosophy
A variety of
convictions motivates our participation in the Alliance: religious or ethical
belief in nonviolent change, support for progressive movements in Central
America, or simple determination to prevent our fellow citizens from dying in a
questionable foreign adventure.
We see that the present upheaval in Central America is caused by intolerable living conditions and by U.S. support for powerful elites.
Our national interest does not conflict with the human needs of Central American people. By actively supporting political and economic democracy, we affirm our nation's professed belief in the values of peace, human rights, and national self-determination.
The
Alliance's Activities:
We have simple
Rice and Beans Dinners to remind us of the diet of many Central American people
and as an occasion to hear speakers, view films to inform the community and
ourselves on U.S. policies and the current situation in Central America.
