Whose Dream Is It?

The Annual Community Celebration of the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is a project of the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice, organized by Whose Dream Is it?, a coalition of religious and community leaders committed to facing the challenge of living and promoting the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. among all faiths and all people. The celebration is one of the largest diversely attended civil/human rights events in Topeka.
Restorative Justice
Mediation
The Topeka Center for Peace and Justice was instrumental in establishing the victim-offender mediation project, parent-adolescent mediation project, and core mediation training. The services are now operated by Kansas Community Mediation Services.Veritas Voices Choir
Veritas Voices choir includes women incarcerated at Topeka Correctional Facility and Topeka area volunteers who work with a volunteer director and accompanist to prepare and present occasional concerts. The choir uses music to help inmates retain or reclaim positive aspects of their humanity before they rejoin us as neighbors.
Economic Justice
The CENTER is a founding member of the Kansas Action Network. KAN is a statewide coalition of peace and justice, labor, farm, religious, and disability organizations committed to workers’ rights, social justice, and economic fairness.
It advocates for:
- wage fairness
- corporate accountability
- state budget and tax fairness
- affordable health care
Mainstream Voices of Faith
The CENTER is an active organizer of Topeka’s clergy-led coalition, Mainstream Voices of Faith, a welcoming community of people of faith, rooted in the ongoing prophetic tradition, advocating creative solutions for issues of justice and peace.
