Restorative Justice Circles in Schools

Thanks to a generous grant from the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club, the Peace Center began training Shawnee County educators in restorative justice practices in 2016. Our goal is for every school in our community to implement this program, called RJ Circles, in their classrooms and disciplinary methods!

So far, we have provided scholarships for over 50 teachers and administrators to be trained by the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution. This group represents all grade levels and local school districts.

After being trained, educators are able to implement the principles of Restorative Justice in their classrooms and the school disciplinary process. Here are some things educators are saying about RJ Circles in their schools:

Students are more motivated in the classroom after participating in a circle.
We see behavior changes after just one circle!
Kids ask for them. They know it feels better to work through the process.

If you have any questions, or know an educator who might be interested in RJ Circles, let us know!
