Parent/Adolescent Mediator and Program Director
Full-Time Position
Topeka Center for Peace and Justice, Inc. is the hub for Restorative Justice and Mediation in NE Kansas. Our mission is to promote justice and peace through education and action for social change by working with individuals and organizations in Topeka. We work in a variety of areas using restorative
practices that strengthen community trust and security. Our partnerships include the Shawnee County DA for Juvenile victim/offender dialogue and Parent/Adolescent Mediation, Family Peace Initiative as a wraparound to support juveniles and families, and area schools where we bring restorative practices to educators and students. Topeka Center for Peace and Justice has been the center for mediation since 1985.
Description:
A wide range of responsibilities include developing, executing, and evaluating new programs as well as continuing to manage the programs that are currently provided by TCPJ including Parent/Adolescent and Victim/Offender Mediations. The successful candidate will be a Kansas Court approved mediator in Parent/Adolescent Mediation or be willing to acquire and maintain that approval. Communication skills are vital to the position. Work with youth and families is beneficial.
Responsibilities:
•
Schedule and Conduct mediations as they are referred by Shawnee
County Court.
•
Work in collaboration with others to develop new programs that meet
the needs of the community of Topeka
•
Develop strategies that can be used to collect and track data and to
assess the quality of all the programs. Report data to funding
organizations on a timely schedule.
•
Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
•
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers in our community.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in social welfare of a related field
KS Supreme Court Approval in Core Mediation and Parent/Adolescent Mediation
Ability to work with others in a small but growing non-profit organization
Experience with Restorative Practices
Creativity, self-motivator, and grant knowledge
The position has allowance for health insurance. Salary is commensurate with experience.
